For Parents

How Can Parents Help?

Your child's spiritual and faith formation takes place within the home. Martin Luther said: "Most certainly father and mother are apostles, bishops, and priests to their children, for it is they who make them acquainted with the Gospel. In short, there is no greater or nobler authority on earth than that of parents over their children, for this authority is both spiritual and temporal. Whoever teaches the Gospel to another is truly his apostle and bishop."

Realize and understand that Our Savior only supplements the Christian nurture you provide in your home. Our Confirmation program prepares your child for the most important promise of their life - that "they will suffer all...even death, rather than forsake their Savior." This is a serious commitment; we take it seriously and encourage parents to do the same as we PARTNER together in your child's "basic training" of the Christian faith. So how can you help?

MODEL the importance of Jesus Christ in your life. You cannot expect your child to be more involved in the Christian life than you. Children learn most about the faith by observing everything your actions.

WORSHIP regularly with your children.

ENCOURAGE and support your children in their work.

NURTURE the importance of Christian stewardship through your own commitment of time and financial resources.

CELEBRATE your faith by serving others.

PRAY for your children and yourselves as they grow and mature.
